The Perfectionist Personality

The perfectionist personality: “I'm never satisfied with myself — I've studied and worked so hard, but it means nothing to me.”

This is part of how a perfectionist personality thinks. Perfectionists believe everything in life must be flawless and perfect. They give themselves no room for mistakes, and they equate failure and setbacks with being worthless themselves — sometimes being so hurt by failure that they abandon their goal altogether. They think that, under any circumstances, they must reach the ideals they've pictured in their minds. They pay little attention to what they already have and see their self-worth only in achievement. Perfectionists tend to be outcome-focused and don't enjoy the process of reaching a result — in fact, once they achieve a goal, they dismiss it and immediately choose another, while on the other hand, if they fail to reach a result, their self-esteem suffers.

Life is an unpredictable reality that holds both success and failure side by side. Sometimes we rush so much toward our goal that we lose the beauty of the journey, when in fact life is the journey itself, and the goal is merely an excuse to keep moving...
